Rotenone Treatment Next Week In Ashley National Forest; Public Must Stay Out

by | Aug 24, 2022 | News | 0 comments

Beginning on Wednesday, August 31st, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources will start the North Slope Phase III rotenone treatment. It is part of the process to restore native cutthroat trout. The piscicide rotenone will be used within the Carter and Sheep Creek drainages. There will be a closure area within 20 feet of the following waters: catchment areas downstream of GR-31 Lake within the Sheep Creek Irrigation Canal downstream to its confluence with South Fork Sheep Creek. This will include tributaries of West Fork Carter Creek, Weyman Creek,North Fork Beaver Creek, and South Fork Beaver Creek, as well as the associated unnamed tributaries. None of the lakes within the project area will be treated in 2022. The closure is necessary to allow ground crews to work safely in and around the treated waters without harm or injury to the public. All use of the water (wading, fishing, swimming, etc.) within the project area will be prohibited. Please note that this order will be in effect beginning August 31st and shall remain in effect until September 4th or until rescinded, whichever occurs first. Violations are punishable by major fines and even imprisonment.
