On June 9, 2023 Michael Goddard was presented with a Paul Harris Award for his
service in the Vernal Rotary Club by member Cheri McCurdy. This award is
Rotary’s way of honoring those who provide a high level of service and/or
monetary donations to Rotary. This is his fifth Paul Harris award.
Mike, as he prefers to be called, joined Rotary in Overbrook, Kansas June 3, 1978.
He served as President of that Club 1990-1991. He moved to Vernal in 1992 and
served as President of the Vernal Club in 1998-1999. He took that service a step
further by serving as Assistant Governor in 2000-2004 for the Utah Rotary District
5420 serving as a liaison between the District Governor and various assigned
clubs. During his time as Assistant Governor, the District Conference was held in
Vernal, Utah. It is said to be one of the best conferences ever organized or
attended by many of his peers.
Mike joins his wife Doris and son Dan as members of the Vernal Club. He and his
wife served in several international projects including a trip to Peru in 2007 where
they delivered dictionaries to the children of the Amazon Village of Santa Rosa.
His wife Doris also taught English while in Peru. The Goddard’s were very active in
local projects such as Santa’s Community Effort and the Local Coat Drive. Perhaps
their favorite project was reading to first graders each week at Naples Elementary
for several years. The Goddards showed up three days per week, providing extra
hours of support to the students and teachers of Naples to improve literacy. They
have always been loyal and dependable putting in many hours of service.
Mike and his wife Doris will continue membership as Honorary Members of the
Club, yet another honor showing respect for their countless hours of service to
our community.
