A Roosevelt Police officer sustained minor injuries after a head on crash with a wrong way driver that finally put an end to a very dangerous situation. Roosevelt PD reports that on the afternoon of November 26th, a vehicle was reported driving in the wrong lane in the Fruitland area. “An ATL (Attempt to Locate) was put out,” shares Roosevelt PD. “Several drivers reported the same individual driving towards Roosevelt. Two Roosevelt City Officers located the vehicle near the Moon Lake Electric office on Highway 40 traveling west in the outside eastbound lane in the wrong direction. Officer Arnold attempted to stop the vehicle by positioning his vehicle in the outside eastbound lane and turning on his lights. The driver of the vehicle veered around Officer Arnold and into the center turn lane, then traveled back into the inside eastbound lane and collided head-on with Sergeant Bird’s patrol vehicle. Sergeant Bird sustained minor injuries and was checked out and released by medical personnel at UBMC. Officer Arnold was not injured, and his patrol vehicle was undamaged.” Roosevelt PD shared that the situation is under investigation by the Utah Highway Patrol and so far no statement has been made about what caused the erratic driving and the condition of the driver. Roosevelt City Chief of Police Mark J. Watkins would like the public to know that officers engage in selfless acts to protect citizens every day. “Often actions from officers go unnoticed and at times we take for granted what our officers actually do to protect the citizens of our city,” shares Chief Watkins. “I am impressed daily with the selfless actions of Roosevelt Police Department officers and what they do for our citizens.”
