Roosevelt Police Chief Mark J Watkins announced this week that Roosevelt Police Officer Kory Reed, along with two Troopers from the Utah Highway Patrol, have been selected to receive a Medal of Valor for their commendable efforts in apprehending the individual wanted in connection with the murder of Santaquin Sgt. Bill Hooser. “The individual in question was observed traveling through Roosevelt, Utah, which prompted an attempted vehicular stop,” explains Chief Watkins. “This action initiated a pursuit that ultimately concluded with the suspect wrecking his vehicle before entering Vernal, Utah. The efforts undertaken by these law enforcement officials encompassed not only the identification of the murder suspect in Roosevelt but also the pursuit of the individual, culminating in the cessation of the chase prior to the suspect’s entry into Vernal. Such actions significantly contributed to the prevention of potential further victimization and ensured the safety of residents within a populated urban area.” The awards will be presented at the 2024 Annual Department of Public Safety Awards Banquet on Thursday, November 21st.
