Two people are in the hospital after a serious two vehicle crash in Roosevelt on Saturday evening. According to Utah Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Cameron Martinez of Roosevelt was driving a pickup westbound on Highway 40 near 1700 West in Roosevelt at about 5:19pm on Saturday. “In that area, SR-40 has two eastbound and two westbound lanes divided by a multi-purpose lane in the center of the roadway,” shares UHP. “For an unknown reason, Martinez drifted off the right shoulder and over-corrected back to the left. This caused the pickup to yaw across both westbound lanes, across the multi-purpose lane, and into the path of an eastbound passenger car.” The car T-boned the pickup broadside. Martinez had not been wearing a seat belt and was ejected out of the pickup, hitting the passenger car’s windshield before being thrown into the roadway. He is in extremely critical condition and was flown to IMC. Martinez had a 4-year-old passenger that suffered only minor injuries due to being properly restrained from in a child’s car seat. The driver of the car was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated. She was also flown to IMC by medical helicopter in poor condition. Highway Patrol reports that evidence gathered at the scene indicates that excessive speed on the part of Martinez likely contributed to the collision.
