Feels like the pedal was put to the metal for summer and the weekend slammed on the brakes of winter. As a timely reminder, Roosevelt City has shared four ideas to help keep things running smoothly in the wintertime. Be sure to avoid piling snow in front of or on fire hydrants as it can quickly solidify into ice, making it impossible for firefighters to access them. Keep all vehicles off the road on snowy days so that plows can maneuver. Please be considerate and do not push snow from driveways and sidewalks into the street. Finally, practice indoor fire safety! Get your chimneys cleaned. Don’t leave any open flame or space heater unattended. Keep flammable materials away from candles, fireplaces, space heaters, etc. And please, please don’t attempt to thaw frozen water pipes with a blow torch! It might work on your pipes, but it will also heat up all the infrastructure around the pipe and can easily cause a fire.
