Roosevelt City has partnered with the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) Program and is in the earliest stages of designing a trail close to downtown Roosevelt. The area for the proposed trail is a section of Cottonwood Creek between Lagoon Street and 800 South. “At present, all we have is a good idea,” says LeeNichole Marett, Public Information Officer for Roosevelt City. “No official decisions have been made. We don’t know exactly what it will take to make this a reality, but we’re hopeful. We believe it could be a huge asset to the Roosevelt community.” The hope is to clean up the Cottonwood Creek area and have a safe walking space between Union High and Centennial Elementary School. This area has no sidewalks, has frequent visits from police because of criminal behavior and is often a concern to the fire department because of the overgrowth. “We have no intention of forcing this project on the property owners if they don’t want it.” Marett adds. “We’re interested in working with them to improve the area and coming to an arrangement that works for everyone.” The end idea for the city is to construct a multi-use trail that can accommodate walking and biking, as well as a recreational fishing pond.
