The Roosevelt Animal Shelter is working hard to serve their community. Earlier this month they helped to open the Pet Food Pantry that helps those going through hard times to get food for their pets. They also just received a No Kill Shelter plaque from Best Friends Animal Society. It takes a concerted effort and continuing support to maintain NO KILL. A 90 percent save rate is the nationally recognized benchmark to be considered “no-kill,” factoring that approximately 10 percent of pets who enter shelters have medical or behavioral circumstances that warrant humane euthanasia rather than killing for lack of space. 2022 and 2023 have been difficult as the shelter has been consistently packed “to the brim with animals”. There are many ways for you as a community member to support and help the shelter. Thank you to all of those who spay/neuter, vaccinate, microchip, and care for your pets. Volunteering and adopting is another great way to save pets’ lives.
