Rio Blanco County Road 8 Fire

Crews continue work on the County Road 8 Fire southeast of Meeker in Colorado’s Rio Blanco County that started as an agricultural burn on Sunday that quickly grew out of control. According to the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was called in on April 11th at 1:06 pm located near mile marker 8 on County Road 8. Response came from Rio Blanco Fire, Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management, Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge, along with resources from the Bureau of Land Management. Crews had to work through the night conducting backburns in an effort to fight the fire. On Sunday it was reported that over 800 acres had burned. As of Tuesday, the County Road 8 Fire was reported at 890 acres and 80 percent contained. Winds were affecting the crew’s efforts but containment continued.
