Representative Scott Chew and Senator Ron Winterton presented a legislative review during the Vernal Chamber luncheon on Tuesday. Utah legislators ran a record number of bills this year which is not something either are necessarily proud of. The topic of water was among the highlights shared by Representative Chew. “I’m there to make sure that they realize that there are more places where water is important than just Salt Lake and St. George,” stated Chew. “We are important out here. The water for the whole state starts in rural Utah and I’m concerned that we don’t get a fair share.” Chew works to be a real champion in this area, especially when it comes to criticism directed at agriculture. “Agriculture is on the forefront of water conservation and agriculture is the only reason we’ve got our fingers on Colorado River water, otherwise California would have it all,” shared Chew. “Agriculture is not the villain. Agriculture is the hero.” Chew also touched on other important topics from infrastructure and broadband to wolves getting transported back to Colorado if they cross over into Utah. A separate news story will share highlights from Senator Ron Winterton.
