A repeat DUI offender was booked into Uintah County Jail after police responded to a rollover accident on Thursday. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the GMC pickup truck was on its side when authorities arrived and the vehicle’s occupants enlisted the help of a passerby to pull the vehicle back onto its wheels. The truck had damage to the front suspension and bumper. The investigating officer spoke with the driver and immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol. When asked about the odor, the driver denied that he had been consuming alcohol and instead said that the smell came from empty beer cans in the bed of the truck spilling out when the vehicle overturned. A portion of field sobriety testing was administered and a lack of smooth pursuit was observed in both eyes. Due to the winter conditions and their location on a blind corner, the officer decided to continue testing at the jail. 26-year-old David Chance McMullin is charged with 3rd Degree Felony DUI – with 2 or more priors in 10 years. It was also found that David was an alcohol restricted driver and the vehicle’s registration was expired.
