A Utah Representative isn’t mincing words about the breakdown of spending proposed in the “American Rescue Plan”.  U.S. Representative Burgess Owens, representing Utah’s 4th District, released the following statement outlining his opposition to Pelosi’s $1.9 trillion dollar plan. “The American Rescue Plan is a trillion-dollar wish list filled with special interest buyouts, progressive spending priorities, and misplaced assistance masquerading as pandemic relief,” states Owens. “This bill showcases the worst of Washington – funding special interest groups, incentivizing harmful lockdowns, and destroying quality jobs at the expense of American families. My constituents in the Fourth District deserve better ‘relief’ than this.” Owens also spoke in opposition on the House floor last week concerning the Equality Act, acknowledging that the issues discussed as part of the Equality Act are important but explained how the expanded definition of “public accommodation” would then discriminate against those of faith. Owens emphasized that as written, the Equality Act could affect how religious organizations choose to worship. “The First Amendment right to practice our faith is at the core of our nation’s culture—our moral compass of service, tolerance, kindness, and charity stems from our Judeo-Christian foundation,” said Owens. “No law should take us down the slippery slope of forgetting this legacy, regardless of its title.”
