Representative John Curtis has introduced legislation that proposes the use of AI to battle an ongoing problem. If passed, the Spam Communications Assessment and Mitigation Platform or SCAM Platform Act would create an AI-powered platform under the FCC. Americans would be able to upload texts, emails, and letters and advanced AI would analyze submissions to determine if they match known scams or exhibit signs of fraudulent activity. “Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their efforts to deceive Americans,” shares Representative Curtis. “This legislation harnesses the power of AI to address evolving scam tactics. The SCAM Platform Act would provide a secure, user-friendly tool to help individuals quickly determine whether a communication they’ve received could be fraudulent.” The website would also be a source of further educating and protecting Americans from scammers.
