August 5th may be just another day for some but for many in the Uintah Basin this date is remembered each year as the day a local hero was killed in action. On August 5th, 2011, Sgt. Daniel Gurr was fatally shot while on patrol in Afghanistan as a member of the United States Marine Corp. Daniel graduated from Uintah High School in 2008 where he was well known for his enthusiasm and smile. Also well known for his athleticism, he served as Captain of the soccer team and was named as an All American. Among the many tributes made in the community after his passing, Uintah High School retired his soccer jersey and has it on display with the flag and a picture of Daniel. Evans Family Media joins those pausing this week to remember the life and sacrifice of Sgt. Daniel Gurr, a hero who will never be forgotten in this community.
