The Rainbow Family of Living Light is holding their annual gathering in western Colorado and local leaders are working to prepare. According to the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement leaders have been meeting with local, state and federal partners since the Rainbow Family announced the location of this year’s annual gathering on June 14th. The Rainbow family describes themselves as having no leaders and no organization. “The gathering is occurring July 1st through the 7th in the Medicine Bow Routt National Forest. More specifically, Adams Park, which is located in Routt County. Due to the proximity of the gathering and directions published by the Rainbow Family, Craig and Moffat County will experience a significant increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic leading up to and then again after the gathering. Local law enforcement is keenly aware of the concerns surrounding the gathering and potential impacts to our community. Collectively, the police department and sheriff’s office have increased patrols and presence across the city and county.” A law enforcement team will focus on minimizing and mitigating the public safety impacts associated with the gathering. All are urged to secure vehicles, homes, and personal belongings. It is expected that the gathering will draw 10,000 visitors with thousands starting to show up over the next few days.
