The public review period is now open for the Great Basin Fuel Breaks project Final Programmatic EIS, a massive BLM project that spans six states and which northeastern Utah is included. The BLM is proposing to create and maintain a system of fuel breaks in the Great Basin region that covers nearly 224 million acres in portions of California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Utah. “The fuel breaks would be placed along a subset of available linear features, such as roads and rights-of-way on BLM administered lands within sagebrush communities,” shares the BLM. “These potential treatment areas cover approximately 38 million acres within the project area boundary.” The EIS was published in the Federal Register on February 14th and the public review period will last for 30 days.
