Vernal City officials are interested in hearing from its citizens as possible action is being considered to vacate 400 West next to the LDS Temple. According to their press release, city officials initiated the discussion and possible action to vacate
400 West as a way to reduce street
maintenance costs and to increase pedestrian safety. “When the city vacates public right-of-way, in most cases, the adjacent property owners are granted half of the adjacent right-of-way,” shares Vernal City. “In this case, the adjacent property owners are the LDS Church and one residential property at the southeast corner of 400 West and 100 South. The majority of the vehicular and pedestrian traffic on 400 West is related to activities and services at the temple and the church.” The City began to consider vacating 400 West after the LDS church purchased six homes on the east side of 400 West to build a new off-street parking lot. Public input is now being sought during an Open House scheduled for
Tuesday, July 17th.
The Open House will be an opportunity to learn more about the possible abandonment of 400 West and a chance to share personal opinions on the topic. The
July 17th
meeting will be held at the Vernal City Hall Community Room
from 5 to 7pm
.
