The Uintah School Board is seeking community input as they prepare to make a decision on the future of the Central Education Center, the building that currently houses Central Cove Preschool. According to a press release from Uintah School District, Central Cove Preschool serves about 275 local children and the building also houses the district’s technology department and many of the district’s special education service providers. “The original Central Elementary School opened in 1941 and the gymnasium was added in 1969,” shares the District. “Although the building is structurally sound, it has major accessibility, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical issues that will require a costly renovation or replacement. The cost estimate to renovate the building is $6,554,800. The cost estimate to build a new replacement building is $7,550,000 (including demolition costs).” The District has sufficient funds in the Capital Construction Account for the project and are proposing to move forward with the project now because the work needs done, the cost will be less now than in the future due to inflation, and in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak the local economy will benefit from the money and business this project will bring to Uintah County. All are asked to take a simple three question survey for the school board to consider as they make the decision between renovating the current building or building a replacement building. The survey can be linked to through the Uintah School District Facebook page
