Vernal City is seeking public input as they consider the possibility of using grant funding to purchase the Lamplighter property on east Highway 40 for a downtown public space and park. The Vernal City Council wants to hear ideas regarding the revitalization options this could create to support the Vernal community and downtown businesses.
Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion explains that the property, formerly owned by the Weston family, is now owned by an out-of-town landlord. The hotel portion of the Lamplighter Inn has been vacant for over 30 years and the property has declined to a state of blight, and the community has requested action. “For years, community members have asked the City what can be done to clean up the property,” shares Bennion. “We’re responding to their requests and working on solutions. Residents are invited to share their thoughts about the purchase options to make our downtown safer, healthier, and more vibrant.”
Community members are invited to the public comment meeting on June 5th at 6:00pm at Vernal City Hall. This will be an opportunity to learn more and share thoughts verbally or via a written survey during the public meeting.
