Movement is being made on the promise to hire more school resource officers in Uintah School District. Uintah County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Brian Fletcher presented to the Uintah County Commission on Monday about Uintah School District and UBTech contracts. Fletcher shared that Uintah School District approved $309,000 dollars to Uintah County Sheriff’s Office to fund 3 full time deputies. There is currently 1 deputy so the Sheriff’s Office was asking for county approval to form 2 additional SRO positions to make a total of three. Fletcher also shared that UBTech has agreed to continue funding a resource officer for their campus. Funding to hire additional security resource officers would have been included if Proposition 4 had passed in the November election. Regardless, the Uintah School Board approved funds to cover critical needs, including additional SRO positions, in a 3-2 vote on November 13th.
