A private aircraft landed short of the runway resulting in a crash on Wednesday morning near the Vernal Regional Airport. According to Vernal Police, law enforcement responded and the downed aircraft was located in a field north of the airport. “Three passengers were assessed at the scene by responding medical personnel and released with minor injuries,” shares Vernal PD. “The scene was secured by law enforcement and fire personnel to ensure scene integrity and safety. The plane was later transported and secured at the Vernal Regional Airport at the direction of the FAA and NTSB as their investigation continues.” Vernal Regional Airport Manager Ken Campbell shared that the occupants were from outside the area and local agencies worked together to efficiently handle the situation. “Vernal City Police Department, coupled with my operations crew and several others, including the county, worked hard to make sure everyone was safe,” shares Campbell. “It seemed to work out pretty well for as dangerous as it could have been.” Campbell also noted that operations at the airport were not held up by the situation as all the agencies worked together quickly.
