The Daggett County Commission reports that the transition of the new Daggett County Sheriff is going well and that Sheriff Erik L. Bailey is working very hard on all aspects of his oversight. Sheriff Bailey was officially sworn in on May 12th and he was immediately charged to have inmates returned to the jail as soon as possible. Sheriff Bailey will finish out the term of former Sheriff Jerry Jorgensen which runs through 2018. It is expected that Sheriff Bailey will run again at that time for another term as Sheriff, to continue building the Sheriff’s Office and county. During the search for a new Sheriff, the Department of Corrections and the Lt. Governor’s office made it clear they wanted to see a new culture in the Sheriff’s Office and urged the county to search beyond the county lines. Sheriff Bailey came from Ogden and has served in law enforcement for over 25 years. He has worked for the Utah Department of Corrections, the Syracuse Police Department, the Utah Transit Authority Police Department, and most recently the Grantsville City Police Department.
