Saturday’s concert of the Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra delivered a polished performance along with a few firsts. As an exciting first, the Uintah High School Orchestra opened the concert and the crowd enjoyed all three of their numbers, especially responding to their plucky performance of ‘Freckles’. The newly formed UBYCO String Quartet performed next and, while their classical piece impressed, it was their rendition of

’s modern hit ‘Like I’m Gonna Lose You’ that received an especially enthusiastic response. The entire Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra then took the stage and delivered four numbers. The familiar classical tunes of Hungarian Dance No. 5 and the Russian Sailors’ Dance brought plenty of applause, as did their modern finale, The Prince of Egypt, which received a standing ovation. This concert was the youth orchestra’s first to include winds, brass, and percussion to make a full symphony.
