The Vernal Police Department had a special focus on Pioneer Day of making traffic stops of drivers failing to yield to pedestrians on a Main Street crosswalk. During the enforcement period, an accident occurred in another area of Vernal that really drove home their message to drivers. A female pedestrian was struck and suffered non-life-threatening injuries at another crosswalk located within Vernal City. The driver of the vehicle indicated that they had not seen the pedestrian in the crosswalk and the pedestrian was transported to the hospital while the driver was issued a citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian. After this series of events, Vernal PD has a clear message for the public. “The Vernal City Police Department encourages drivers to be mindful of pedestrians not only on Main Street but at all intersections and crosswalks,” shares their announcement. “We want our community members, children, and visitors to be safe and enjoy what Vernal has to offer as they walk around town. Any violations of drivers not yielding to pedestrians at crosswalks will result in citations.” For further information, please contact Vernal PD.
