Pariette Wetlands Prescribed Burning Happening Through March

by | Feb 27, 2025 | News | 0 comments

The Bureau of Land Management Vernal Field Office announced this week plans to conduct prescribed burning operations on approximately 300 acres at the Pariette Wetlands from the last week of February through March 31st. “Located in Uintah County, southwest of Ouray and Pelican Lake, the burns will be conducted on selected days within this timeframe to ensure conditions are optimal for achieving project success and safety,” shares the announcement. “The BLM Fire program will be looking to burn the western portions of Pariette Wetlands. This effort is part of the annual burn schedule, which includes both spring and fall burns. These burns will help maintain the impoundments free of invasive vegetation, keeping 50 percent or more open water for waterfowl.” Parts of the wetlands will be closed to the public during the burns. Any questions about the burn, like whether an area is open, can be directed to Fuels Program Manager Hank Barela at 435-781-2741.
