You’ve heard of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Well what about taking it a step further and there being the wrong people at the wrong place at the wrong time. The owner of a wallet that was accidentally left at a Uintah County gas station would likely use that scenario for the following: a dishonest pair saw the opportunity to go through the lost wallet and take the card in the window of time that it was waiting for its owner to return for it. According to the Probable Cause Statement, 28-year-old Lexie Byrne and 54-year-old Louis Hoopes took the card and then went shopping and to dinner at Kentucky Fried Chicken. The unlawful use of the card was captured on a security camera, wherein both the defendants and the stolen card can be clearly seen. When asked by law enforcement where they got the card, the defendant stated that she was given it by an acquaintance around Christmas time, and that she had permission to use it, which was not true. Charges of Unlawful Acquisition of a Financial Card, Unlawful Use of a Financial Card, and Criminal Conspiracy were filed against both Lexie Byrne and Louis Hoopes in 8th District Court. Neither are listed as in custody but both have court dates coming up in March.
