The USU Bingham Research Center has announced that the ozone alert system is now underway for this new winter season. “We hope you will use our alerts to reduce air pollution during periods when air quality is likely to be impaired,” shares the announcement. “This winter, the Research Center will use a new ozone prediction model to help us issue forecasts. Eventually, we will put these forecasts with live air-quality data on a new website to replace the old UBAIR website at ubair.usu.edu.” This week’s forecast is listed as Low Winter Ozone Risk and notes that snowfall from last week has melted. It is unlikely that substantial snow will fall or accumulate in the next 4 days. The forecast for December 7th and beyond is Low to Moderate Winter Ozone Risk due to a moderate possibility of snowfall. The season of monitoring winter ozone generally runs from December to March.
