Things are a little different this year for Outlaw Trail Theater as the behind the scenes access is limited due to construction but the show must go on and an exciting show is opening in a few short weeks. Director Jay Haslem has plenty to share about the production: “Tied to the Tracks is one of the older melodramas that are out there. You have your hero (think Sheriff Woody) and heroine (think Disney princess) complete with bad guy wearing a top hat and cape. The villain wants the heroine’s fortune and will go to great lengths to marry her! You have a traveling medicine troupe, a range of outlaws and enough local farm boys and girls to round out the cast of 27. This show is the classic melodrama where the audience is part of the show. They are encouraged to throw popcorn, boo and cheer as the show is performed. We have a live band playing all the hilarious music that compliments the action on the stage perfectly. We chose a melodrama this year because it bings us closer to our roots of the original Outlaw Trail Festival. We are bringing a little bit of western humor and entertainment back to Vernal.” Haslem explains that the cast is small due to the construction around the upgrading of the Ice Rink. Show-goers will see a few changes in the background, but can still expect to fall out of their chairs in laughter during this entertaining 1 1/2 hour show.
