Vernal City Council covered multiple agenda items during last week’s meeting including possible regulations and ordinance changes. The Council considered on a first reading the possibility of new sign regulations and sign setbacks. The focus of the change is blade signs in the downtown area, shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. “Blade signs are pedestrian scale small signs that project over the sidewalk. The signs have a functional purpose to let visitors and shoppers know of store location and aesthetic value.” The agenda item will be discussed at the next council meeting. The business licensing ordinance change and fee schedule resolution was approved by the City Council. “The major changes to the ordinance related to home occupations and mobile food vendors,” explains Bennion. “The fee schedule was discussed at length with the current economy [and] fees were structured with small businesses in mind.” The last revisions made to fees were done 19 years ago and the new fees remain similar to or lower than other cities in Utah.
