Options Continue To Be Explored For Vernal Airport Service

Vernal Regional Airport Manager Ken Campbell recently reported to the Vernal City Council on the future of service at the airport. It was announced in May that the Department of Transportation had rejected the application from SkyWest Airlines to continue service at the Vernal Regional Airport even though it was the hope of local officials and airport staff for SkyWest to continue. A federal bid was opened for other airlines to propose service to Vernal with SkyWest continuing service until the new provider takes over. During his recent report, Campbell said that his first goal is to stabilize the airport travel and then look to the future. There is the possibility of travel to the Denver area and he said there is also a company that is willing to come to Vernal under the strict FAA rules. This company will be traveling to Salt Lake City from Moab and is willing to add Vernal to and from Salt Lake City to the flight schedule. The service would be available twice a week and would utilize a single engine aircraft with an 8 seat capacity. The Council discussed the options and plan to give them further consideration.
