An Open House is happening tonight in Vernal for anyone interested in learning more about the new season of the Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra was founded in 2016 as an opportunity for local youth to take their musicianship to the next level and enrich the Uintah Basin with classical music. Participants have mostly ranged from age 12 to 20 but there have been a few extra talented kids ages 9 to 11 as well. The Uintah Basin Youth Chamber Orchestra board recently approved the appointment of a new Executive Director and the Open House is a great opportunity to meet him and learn why he’s passionate about having a youth orchestra in our community. New Executive Director Clayton Johnson is a classically trained violist that has been playing for 16 years. He has his degree in Music Education from BYU-Idaho and is the orchestra teacher at the Roosevelt Jr. High School. Brian Gibson will work alongside Johnson as an Assistant Director. If you have a child taking strings lessons or is even thinking about playing a string instrument, please come to the Open House to learn more and have something that may inspire your child to work towards. Tonight’s Open House is in the Uintah High band room. Please enter from the north side of the school. An Open House will also be held next week on November 2nd at the Roosevelt Junior High School. Come to either anytime between 6 and 8pm. For more information, call 435-828-1171.
