A massive plume of black smoke could be seen for many miles in Duchesne County on early Friday afternoon, originating a few miles north of Duchesne City. Pictures and concern quickly spread online along with the hope that whatever had happened, that everyone was okay. Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office eventually delivered the news of what happened and that amazingly, no injuries were reported. “On January 3rd, 2025 at about 12:45 in the afternoon there was an oil tank that caught fire while the tanks were having some maintenance done to them,” shares the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office. “At some point a fire started and the battery of tanks then became fully engulfed in flames, the oil well site and location were evacuated and State Road 87 North of Duchesne was shut down for a short time.”
