Utah Highway Patrol is urging all travelers to make safety the top priority this Labor Day Weekend. Labor Day wraps up the 100 Deadliest Days that runs from Memorial Day each year and tragically 2024 has lived up to the name. The Department of Public Safety provided data this week. During the 2023 100 Deadliest Days, there were 81 lives lost on Utah roads. So far this year there have been 86 total fatal crashes with 95 lives lost. July was a particularly awful month with 42 fatal crashes and 49 fatalities. The fatalities this year are comprised of 73 percent males and 23 percent females with speed listed as a major contributing factor. Public safety officials are urging travelers this busy holiday weekend to slow down and stay calm on the roads. The hope is that the fatalities stop now and Utah stays away from the dreaded marker of 100 fatalities during the 100 deadliest days. Sadly, that is a very real possibility. There will be increased patrols on the road enforcing the law this holiday weekend.
