Uintah Middle School was a hub of political activity on Tuesday evening for the Uintah County Republican Convention. Local candidates for Uintah County Commission and candidates for state and federal offices set up booths and welcomed Uintah County and State Delegates to mingle and gather platform information ahead of the meeting. Candidates were all given an opportunity to speak during the meeting but the main focus was on the three Republican candidates for Uintah County Commission: Guy Gustaveson, Danny Mortensen, and Willis LeFever. Each Commissioner was given the opportunity to answer questions on topics such as the county budget, taxes, water resources, and more. At the end of the meeting, 2 rounds of voting determined the Republican Party Nominee for Uintah County Commissioner going into the Primary Election. In round 1 of voting, LeFever received 162 votes, Mortenson received 67 votes, and Gustaveson received 35 votes. In round 2, LeFever received 185 votes and Mortenson received 65 votes. Having secured 74 percent of the votes, LeFever was named the Convention Nominee. Individual news stories on several of the debate topics will be covered by Evans Family Media and shared on BasinNow.com over the next week.
