There were no injuries reported in a crash involving a Uintah School District bus
on Wednesday morning
in Vernal. According to the Uintah School District, the crash occurred on Wednesday, May 8th, at about 7:50am when bus number 58 stopped to pick up students near
250 South Vernal Avenue
and was struck from behind by the driver of a pickup truck. “The bus driver had activated the bus’ yellow flashers, set the emergency brake and was preparing to open the door for students to board when the crash happened,” shares the District. “In addition to the driver, there was one student on the bus at the time of the crash. Both the driver and the student were evaluated by emergency medical personnel at the scene. They did not report any injuries. Uintah Transportation Director Mark Rich called the student’s mother to notify her of the crash. None of the students waiting to board the bus were injured.” The pickup truck caught fire after the crash but was put out quickly by a garden hose from a nearby house and a fire extinguisher. Another bus was able to pick up the students and complete the route to Naples Elementary School. The crash is being investigated by Vernal City Police.
