Thankfully there were no fatalities in a head on collision that involved three pickup trucks on US-191 north of Vernal
on Tuesday afternoon
. According to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Brett Gehring, the crash occurred near Milepost 358 at the turn off to Moonshine Arch. Two pickup trucks were traveling northbound when the one in the front, a Ford F350, began to slow down in preparation to turn. The driver of a black Toyota pickup truck traveling behind the Ford did not immediately see that the Ford was slowing down until it was almost too late. In an attempt to avoid a rear end collision, the driver swerved over to the left into the oncoming lane. A silver Toyota pickup truck with a single occupant was traveling southbound at this moment and the black Toyota hit the silver Toyota head on. The Ford F350 was clipped in the accident. The occupants of the Ford F350 were one adult and one child. The black Toyota had four occupants. Several people were taken to the hospital by ambulance, reports Lt. Gehring. “All were wearing seatbelts as far as we can tell,” shares Lt. Gehring. “Air bags also deployed and in my opinion that is why we didn’t lose any lives.” Both drivers in the head on collision were flown to Salt Lake hospitals but neither appear to have life threatening injuries.
