The Uintah School Board has announced the hiring of a new Superintendent for Uintah School District. The Board announced Dr. Rick Woodford as the new Superintendent during a special business meeting on Wednesday. “As a board we were thoroughly impressed with Rick’s credentials, public education background and leadership experience,” shares Uintah School Board President Kurt Case. “His commitment to excellence came through not only during his interview with the board, but also in the work he has done throughout his career with parents, teachers, staff and community partners to develop effective, supportive learning environments that serve students.” Woodford is replacing Mark Dockins who accepted a leadership position at UBTech. Woodford has a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Special Education from USU and earned his Doctorate of Education from the University of Wyoming. He taught special education at Logan High School from 1993 to 2000 and then served as the special education director for Lincoln County School District 2 in Afton, Wyoming from 2000 to 2012. From 2012 to 2014 he worked as the principal of Star Valley High School before becoming the Superintendent for Big Horn County School District where he is currently employed. Woodford and his wife Jen are the parents of seven children, three of which are still at home and school aged. They also have two grandchildren. “I am impressed with the community, the Uintah School Board and the overall quality of the Uintah School District,” shares Woodford. “We’re excited for the opportunity to make Vernal our home.” The Board will vote on Woodford’s appointment and contract during their business meeting scheduled for February 12th. For now, Uintah Schools Curriculum Director Jayme Leyba is serving as interim superintendent.
