Most would agree, a new library in Roosevelt is long overdue making it especially exciting as the project moves forward. Duchesne County Library Director Daniel Mauchley explains that the new library will have a community center focus. “The current library is less than 5,000 square feet,” shares Mauchley. “The schematic design for the new library is 16,700 square feet. Many new spaces are being added based on public meetings, surveys, and focus groups held in late 2018. First is a 3,000 square feet community room that can be divided into two smaller rooms. One side will offer a kitchenette and both sides will have audiovisual equipment. These community rooms will face east and have access to an outdoor plaza. This will allow the library to hold Story Time crafts and activities in a separate space rather than in the lobby, as well as the larger family events the library is known for. The space will also be available to the public for events that are free and open to the public.” Among many other details, Mauchley shares that staff spaces will only total 1,500 square feet of the library. The application to the Community Impact Board has been submitted and it’s hoped they will be scheduled to present to the Board soon. “If all goes well in the funding, the project will be bid out this winter,” explains Mauchley. “If the bidding is within our budget, construction should begin in March 2021.
