Suicide is on the rise and has tragically had an upward trend in the Uintah Basin. There is a new national Suicide & Crisis Lifeline phone number. The new number is 9-8-8 and includes added text and chat features. While it is a new name, it was previously known as the National Suicie Prevention Lifeline, it works the same way. It provides free, national 24/7/365 access, with a trained crisis worker to talk to. After you dial 988 there will be an option for Spanish or the Vetern’s Crisis Line. If you do not select either of those you will be transferred to a crisis line for your state based on the area code. A trained crisis worker answers the call. If they are unable to answer the call within 3 minutes you get routed to another crisis center nearby to ensure people get the help they need. The trained crisis worker will talk with you and are trained to help stabilize the crisis which includes giving needed resources. The line is not only for those experiencing suicidal thoughts, workers can help with many types of mental health crises.
