The Uintah County Commission approved a new medical director for the Uintah County Jail during Monday’s Commission meeting. Two weeks ago the county opened up bids and three bids were submitted. The committee recommendation to the Commission was for the bid of Dr. Alma Parker. Commissioner Brad Horrocks stated he had looked over the contract and was very pleased with it and what was presented. He made a motion to approve the bid. County attorney Jonathan Stearmer requested that the bid also authorize the county attorney’s office to draft the contract so that it doesn’t have to come back before the Commission a second time. The motion passed. The approval of Dr. Parker as the new medical director equates to nearly a 50 percent savings. Clerk/auditor Mike Wilkins stated that currently the cost is around $60,000 dollars a year and under Dr. Parker it is estimated it will cost around $32,000 dollars a year.
