A new District Ranger has been announced for the Flaming Gorge/Vernal Ranger District. Curtis Booher will serve in the position on the Ashley National Forest, headquartered in Manila. “I am honored to have been given the opportunity to serve at such a national treasure,” shares Curtis, who describes the assignment as a “dream come true.” Initial goals for new District Ranger Curtis include sustaining and enhancing forest restoration, collaboration, tribal consultation and recreation management. Curtis has a bachelor’s degree from University of Oklahoma in social science/organizational administration with a minor in natural resource management. He spent his early career as a firefighter and law enforcement ranger with National Park Service and California State Parks. He became a Ranger for the BLM in 2010 in the Black Rock Desert of northern Nevada. He’s also worked as a lead river ranger, as an acting deputy district ranger and recreation manager in Oregon and natural resource specialist in California. Most recently, Curtis served as the District Ranger on the Coronado National Forest in Arizona.
