TriCounty Health Department announced Monday afternoon that there is a new case of COVID-19 in Uintah County, bringing the total number of cases in the TriCounty Health District to 3. They shared the following: TriCounty Health Department (TCHD) announces more confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in the Uintah Basin. As of 4:30 p.m. on April 6, 2020, there was 1 new case being reported. Bringing the total number of cases to 3 (2 in Uintah County and 1 in Duchesne County).

Through contact tracing and investigation, the cause of the identified COVID-19 cases in the tri-county area appears to be from community-acquired transmission. To help slow the transmission within the community TCHD recommends the public take caution when pursuing essential trips outside the home by wearing face coverings, keeping a social distance of at least 6 feet when possible, washing hands and using sanitizer made with 60 percent alcohol.

“Where feasible, it is strongly encouraged that the number of individuals per household entering any public place at a given time be limited to the fewest number possible,” TriCounty Health Officer, Jordan Mathis, said. “This, along with wearing a face covering, will slow the spread of transmission within our community.  These measures are important because we are beginning to understand that a significant portion of individuals with COVID-19 lack any symptoms and that even those who develop symptoms can transmit the virus to others before showing any symptoms.”

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends the public wear face coverings when social distancing is difficult, e.g – grocery shopping. TCHD supports the public in efforts of making cloth face coverings to protect against community-acquired transmission of COVID-19, but remember, face coverings DO NOT substitute a 6-foot social distancing.
