Even though his home has been Roosevelt from the time he was born, Principal Jesse Fieldsted is right at home in his new position as Altamont High School’s principal. He spent time during his youth helping his grandfather, who lived in the area, with his cows and sheep and other ranch/farm work.

Regardless of how familiar with the area he is, there are still challenges he will face. He came from Roosevelt Junior High School to a completely different environment that could faze anyone. However, he is ready to rise to meet the challenges that are ahead of him.

Mr. Fieldsted’s vision for the school includes academic growth and an emphasis on safety. The school’s goals include an average of 22 on the ACT and for the State Standardized Core Tests to improve by 2% this year. “I anticipate there to be growth,” he says. He also expects that the staff and the community will know the safety procedures and goals for the school.

Mr. Fieldsted is really looking forward to being a part of a school with such a strong community. “One of the reasons [the school] is so successful is because you have a community who cares,” he believes. “They care about education. They want their kids to do what they’re supposed to…they’re very supportive ofus and what we’re trying to do. I feel like the kids have a good work ethic, and that comes from a way of life, the way they were born and raised.”

He looks forward to continuing at Altamont and overcoming whatever challenges he may face.
