Community members of Uintah County and beyond have been upset and disturbed to learn of the alleged actions of caretakers arrested over the weekend for abusing a nonverbal resident of a local group home in Vernal. North Eastern Services (NES), which has been providing services to people with disabilities since 1983, responded to a request from Evans Family Media on Monday for a statement regarding the incident and the arrested individuals. It states, “North Eastern Services is devastated by what happened to one of our cherished individuals. We find the alleged actions of these ex-employees disgusting and inexcusable. We immediately terminated their employment and reported them to Adult Protective Services. We will continue to aid and cooperate with the local law enforcement to ensure justice is served. We care deeply for the individuals in our care and this kind of behavior is not tolerated.” And for those wondering, “all involved employees had cleared background checks, reference checks, and completed extensive training on abuse prevention.”
