Grant funding has helped Naples City move forward with upgrading their surveillance system for their City buildings. Naples Police Chief Simper presented about the need for upgrades during a Council meeting earlier this year, explaining that it was found it will be more cost effective to start over with new equipment than to upgrade the current system. Among the issues with the old system was the amount of time it took to manually find anything in the videos which is a necessary 3 to 4 times a month with each instance often turning into an all day event. The old system also cannot save and send videos while the new system will be easy to find clips to share. After considering bids, the City Council approved the new system in February. The cost of $54,000 dollars is covered by a State Homeland Security Program FEMA grant and ARPA funding.
