A Myton man was sentenced to prison on Tuesday after he was previously convicted of seven felonies, including assaulting law enforcement officers with dangerous weapons during the January 6th, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. A U.S. District Judge issued the verdicts in June against 30-year-old Odin Meacham of Myton, finding him guilty of assaulting law enforcement with a weapon and civil disorder, among other charges. According to a brief on Justice.gov, video footage shows Meacham on the west side of the Capitol building striking an officer on the upper body with a large wooden pole. About 5 minutes later, video shows Meacham picking up a black metal pole from the ground and throwing it at and hitting a police officer. Footage also shows Meacham attempting to take possession of an officer’s baton but was unsuccessful. Meacham was arrested on May 15th, 2023. Meacham was sentenced to six years – or 72 months – in prison, 24 months of supervised release, and ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution by U.S. District Judge John D. Bates.
