Mudslides closed several roads on Sunday. At 3:30pm on Sunday afternoon, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office announced that Highway 6 was closed in Price Canyon due to flooding. The Utah Department of Transportation released further information by 5:00pm that the road was closed in both directions between Helper and Soldier Summit along with images that showed the mudslide and debris covering the roadway as well as extensive damage to the infrastructure. UDOT shared that their goal is to reopen Highway 6 by early Monday morning with vehicles traveling on gravel at a reduced speed limit of 25mph. This plan depends on the weather and is subject to change. Anyone hoping to travel on Highway 6 on Monday are urged to plan extra travel time and check on the latest UDOT update before attempting. Once the road is reopened, crews will work to replace the road and complete the culvert construction. Multiple mudslides were also reported in Indian Canyon on Sunday evening. UDOT announced that Highway 191 was closed between milepost 290 and 259 around 8:30pm. The goal was for crews to reopen Highway 191 by midnight, weather depending.
