This weekend’s mountain biking competition at Buckskin Hills in Uintah County will benefit more than just the high school kids taking part. The event, which brings approximately a thousand athletes and their supporters, also provides a real boost to the local economy. Uintah County has put its support behind the event with the road department helping add new sections to the trail and the travel and tourism office adding their expertise in the planning. “We live to create fun and engaging experiences that bring people together in Dinosaurland,” shares Uintah County travel and tourism director Lesha Coltharp. Attracting the masses for events like this one pays off. Uintah Rollin’ Utes team director Cheryl Meier brings home the point. “A race like this does more for our small community than anyone can realize,” says Meier. “We rely on events like this to sustain our hotels and restaurants. Having over 1,000 registered riders and each one of them bringing two people with them really stimulates the economy.”
