Motorcycle Chase Ends In Arrest

A motorcycle caught speeding on Highway 40 led officers on a high speed chase on August 1st in Duchesne County. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, 41-year-old Daniel Patrick Engle was speeding while heading eastbound on Highway 40 near milepost 68. When an officer attempted to pull him over, Engle sped up reaching speeds of 105mph. When he turned onto a dirt road he hit his brakes and the pursuing officer hit the back of the motorcycle. In the meantime, Engle had jumped off the motorcycle and ran away on foot. The officer caught up to Engle and secured him in handcuffs. It was found that the motorcycle was not registered and not insured and an 8-inch knife in a scabbard was on his belt. As a category II restricted person he was not to be in possession of the weapon. Engle was arrested and is facing multiple charges, including 3rd Degree Felony Failure to Stop at Command of Police and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon by a Restricted Person.
