While they haven’t been hit as hard as Nevada, areas of the western slope of Colorado are dealing with major pockets of cricket infestation, especially near Meeker and Craig. The so-called Mormon Crickets travel as a large swarm, eating the countryside and whatever crops they can get to. Images of Highway 40 in Moffat County show the road streaked for miles by the reddish insects. Residents are hoping local governments will step up and spray the invaders as has been done in other outbreak years.
